Nature conservation
Mount Pilatus, the striking mountain massif south of Lucerne, is not only known for its breathtaking views, but also for its diverse nature. The region provides a habitat for numerous animal and plant species and is an important destination for nature lovers.
Various measures are being taken to protect this natural diversity or make it more accessible. The Flower trail on Pilatus Kulm, for example, provides a comprehensive overview of the local plant species. Or the Drachenmoor on Krienseregg - a protected moor that is home to a wide variety of rare plant and animal species.
Gastronomy
The restaurants of Pilatus-Bahnen AG are intensively committed to sustainability and pay attention to various aspects.
Circular economy: particular emphasis is placed on the recycling process, with waste being carefully separated. Disposable crockery is completely biodegradable.
Regional and seasonal cuisine: The restaurants primarily use local suppliers and regional products in order to support the regional economy and reduce the ecological footprint
Food waste: Pilatus Kulm Hotels analyses and weighs unused food every year. This makes it possible to analyse exactly how food waste can be reduced.
Sustainable innovation
A central focus is on continuously increasing energy efficiency. Increasing use is being made of renewable energy sources such as hydropower in order to minimise the ecological footprint.
One milestone was the modernisation of the cogwheel railway: thanks to new railcars with recuperation technology, braking energy can be recovered - reducing electricity consumption by up to 30 %.
At the same time, our employees are actively helping to reduce energy consumption throughout the company by conserving resources, for example by using water responsibly.
Mobility
Pilatus is centrally located and easily accessible in the heart of Switzerland and can be easily reached by public transport.
Tip: By travelling by public transport, you are not only helping to reduce CO2 emissions: with the SBB RailAway offer, you can combine your Pilatus excursion with a train journey and benefit from a discount of up to 50%.
There are also car parks for electric cars at both valley stations. There is also a charging station for e-bikes in Kriens.

Sustainability in society involves striving for a balance between environmental, social and economic aspects in order to ensure the quality of life of present and future generations. It means taking responsibility for the environment, promoting social justice and at the same time supporting economic development.
We are Swisstainable
We are part of the sustainability program Swisstainable and classified at level III – leading. The sustainability program Swisstainable unites businesses and organizations along the entire Swiss tourism sector.
With our participation, we commit ourselves to continuous sustainable business development, pursue measures in the field of sustainability and thus make a concrete contribution to a sustainable Swiss tourism.
