When is the last ascent?
In summer, the last ascent from Kriens takes place at 5pm. In winter at 4pm. Please check the current operating times before you arrive.
We also recommend that you check the timetable for the cog railway in advance.
Do I have to book the journey on the cog railway?
We recommend booking at weekends when the weather is fine and at lunchtime during the week. A reservation is not obligatory. Without a reservation, however, there may be waiting times.
Where does the boat depart from in Lucerne?
The boat to Alpnachstad departs from Lucerne city centre, opposite Lucerne railway station from landing stage 2.
Can I drive directly up to the hotel by car?
It is not possible to drive to the Pilatus Kulm Hotels by car. Please park your car at the valley stations in Kriens or Alpnachstad and use the mountain railways for the rest of your journey. You can find out more about travelling here.
Can I park for free as a hotel guest?
For hotel guests, the regular charges apply, which vary depending on the duration of the car park. Please pay for your exit ticket at the machines provided. You can find out more about travelling here.
How do I get the train tickets included in the package?
If you have booked an overnight package including ascent and descent, you will receive the tickets from our ticket office team at the valley stations.
Frequently asked questions about our railway and cable cars
How long does a trip up the Pilatus take?
It takes around 40 minutes to reach Pilatus Kulm from Kriens. Take the panoramic gondola lift from Kriens to Fräkmüntegg. The "Dragon Ride" aerial cableway then takes you to the summit.
From Alpnachstad, the steepest cogwheel railway in the world takes you to Pilatus Kulm in 30 minutes.

How long do I need to change from the boat to the rack railway?
The distance between the landing stage and the cog railway station is very short. A railway subway takes you directly to the valley station.
Can pushchairs be transported?
Yes, they can. For the cogwheel railway, the pushchair needs to be folded. You can find more information here.
Can I use the cable cars with a wheelchair?

How much luggage can I take with me?
Hand luggage can be carried free of charge, provided that it can be accommodated without restricting fellow travellers.
Transport of materials/goods must be registered in advance and will be charged for.
Can I take my bike onto the railway?
No. Bicycles are not transported.
Can I take my skis or snowboard with me on the lifts?
If you are a touring skier, yes. The touring skis or splitboards are only transported from Kriens to Fräkmüntegg in the equipment trolley using the ski bags provided for this purpose. Transport in the gondola is prohibited.
Attention: The Pilatus is not a freeride area. There are alpine dangers, in particular sudden changes in the weather, avalanches, falling rocks and steep terrain. There are no marked descents (pistes and downhill routes). Furthermore, it is forbidden to use the official, marked toboggan runs. Pilatus-Bahnen AG accepts no liability for accidents or other incidents.

The distinction between the classes is made on the ship. 1st class is on the upper deck, 2nd class on the main deck. There is no distinction on the Pilatus cableways.
Are dogs allowed on the Golden Tour?
Yes, dogs are allowed on the entire round trip, but require a ticket for the various means of transport.
Do I need a round trip ticket if I have a Swiss Travel Pass?
With the Swiss Travel Pass, you travel for free on the boat and bus. You only need a (discounted) ticket for the ascent and descent on the Pilatus.
