The hike takes about 5 hours from Kriens or Alpnachstad.

When is the best time for a hike on the Pilatus?
When is the best time for a hike on the Pilatus?

The hiking season usually lasts from May to October - depending on snow conditions. Hikes to the summit, to Pilatus Kulm, are only recommended from mid-June. Until then, many hiking trails, especially at higher altitudes, are still covered in snow. The so-called "Pilatus Putzete" usually takes place on the third Saturday in June. On this day, the hiking trails are repaired.

Some lower-lying routes, such as those around Fräkmüntegg, may be accessible earlier depending on the snow conditions. However, it is important to find out about the current conditions in advance.

Do I need special equipment for a hike on the Pilatus?
Do I need special equipment for a hike on the Pilatus?

Good shoes, weatherproof clothing and plenty of water are sufficient for easy hikes. For more challenging tours, we also recommend hiking poles, maps or a hiking app.

Do I have to buy the ticket for the train journey in advance?
Do I have to buy the ticket for the train journey in advance?

No. You can buy tickets for the mountain railways on site at any station. Alternatively, you can also buy your ticket spontaneously online. However, it is advisable to reserve a seat on the cogwheel railway, as waiting times can occur when there are large numbers of visitors.

Yes, there are several family-friendly hiking trails, e.g. around Krienseregg or Fräkmüntegg (difficulty levels T1 and T2).

Yes, there are some trails that are designated for biking. You can find the exact routes here.

Are there official fireplaces on the Pilatus?
Are there official fireplaces on the Pilatus?

Yes, there are several fireplaces around the Pilatus that invite you to barbecue and linger. These are usually easily accessible along the hiking trails and some are equipped with seating. There are no fire pits on Pilatus Kulm.

Firewood is available at the fireplaces in Krienseregg (PILU-Land) and Fräkmüntegg (rope park and Drachenalp).

In principle, the Rope Park is also open when it rains. However, we recommend taking a look at the open facilities before travelling.

Is it possible to buy admission to the Rope Park in advance?
Is it possible to buy admission to the Rope Park in advance?

A visit to the Rope Park can be booked for groups of 10 people or more. Please contact our Customer Service for this. Individuals and smaller groups do not need a reservation and can purchase admission on site.

Are there barbecue areas at the Rope Park?

Yes, there is a barbecue area right next to the rope park. There are more in the surrounding area, including at the Drachenalp. Firewood is available at the Rope Park and Drachenalp.

Please note that the barbecue sites cannot be reserved.

The courses are at different heights - from just above the ground to 8 metres above the floor.

What is the PILU Rope Park and who is it suitable for?
What is the PILU Rope Park and who is it suitable for?

The PILU Rope Park is a climbing course specially designed for children starting from the age of 4. It offers age-appropriate challenges at a safe height. Thanks to a continuous safety rope, even the youngest children can gain their first climbing experience.

The tents are stretched just above the ground. So that you can easily get in and out of the tent.

How many people can fit in a Tree Tent?

Each Tent offers space for two to three people. We recommend a maximum of 2 adults and one child (up to 12 years) per tent.

Yes, the Fräkmüntegg restaurant is in the immediate vicinity. Its bathrooms are accessible at all times.
